is there a way to determine if my case is solid brass or brass plated?
Form follows function.
Tengo una navaja opinel la número 7 una preciosidad 🇮🇨🇪🇸
🤙🏼
Knife history is really interesting, all around the world has different models & whatnot 🤷 this is part of what I enjoy about knives.
Thanks for this video...I just bought the same sharpener but wasn't sure how to use it, especially for my fishing hooks!
Where can you buy the wick
Of all the commercial knives there is nothing that can beat a traditional Opinel carbon steel bladed knife, with its beautifully contoured comfortable handle and simple and reliable locking mechanism.... it's design is truly timeless. Forge on Opinel, don't change a thing!
Mine can't even cut paper. Good thing these are cheap. Somebody didn't bother sharpening both sides before it left the factory
This can also be used not just for marine use.. but that's an emergency flashlight.. emergency flashlight for camping.. hanging in a tent.. I use Eveready ultimate lithium.. as they never leak like alkaline.. they have a 10-year shelf life.. they last a lot longer than alkaline.. and they work in lower temperatures.. yes ever ready ultimate lithium. Batteries are more expensive but I get them on sale and well worth it in my emergency flashlights and devices.. just the fact that they don't leak is a plus
just ordered no 12 carbon
Now I see why Opinel can make such a great knife at such a silly low price... the steel temper is really good and they come pretty sharp out of the box.... a touch up with a fine hone and they are crazy sharp and hold an edge very well. I have a 6 for the pocket and a 10 in my "bug out" bag for general duties. I will inevitably buy more of these wonderful knives. I have expensive ones from Gerber and Spyderco, and yes they are nice, but the Opinels cut as well, hold an edge as well, are easier to use thanks to the handle shape and cost about 10% of the others. No one should be without one or two (or more) Opinels IMHO.
In so many years, opinel did not change much. French people, however, kind of ... Became more tan.
Love my Green No. 8. My favorite thing besides the style and feel of the Opinel is the ease of sharpening...even the stainless models. That flat grind makes it super easy to sharpen on my convexing block....heck it's easier than my convex blades. Can't wait to own a few more of these!
How do you get one of those cool knife sharpeners that lady was using?
You can't do your own video? Lol
I own a couple of them. I prefer high carbon steel, to nearly any other knife steel. Simple and functional to suit this Mountain man.
no tattoos on any these folks❤
I've had one for for several years now. It seves my purposes well enough.
That tin/can opener is used incorrectly in the video. It's a forward opening Victorinox-style opener, and should be operated in an anticlockwise direction, which, once you've mastered the technique, opens the tin/can very quickly. Using it in a backwards direction, going clockwise, as shown in this video, is inefficient and creates a dangerously jagged edge. xx
The very fact this video even exist is why I buy Opinel. From a time before 400 dollar pocket titaniums.
Specs would be good, and clarification it's a locking blade, it's kinda shown, but blink and you miss it. Those of us looking for UK legal EDC find it kind of infuriating blade length and lock mechanisms aren't clearly declared.
They really should rebuild the first workshop as a museum shop that function and they make special edition blades there
Bonjour ils y a des éditions limitées ils en avaient sorti un pour Christophe Colomb et pour le tour de France ainsi que la coupe du monde de football et aussi pour la révolution française cordialement
how did i get here
I Love opinels no.6 thru 9 are what I enjoy most! Carbone or inox are both great 🙂
The best pocket knife in the universe!
Stunning Venezuela.
عبدالرحمن مصر 🇪🇬 معجب بسكنه
Just bought a opinex 8.
Help, how can I clean the part where the water comes out? Can it be removed too?
These are perhaps my favorite knives EVER. I will never be convinced Opinel makes bad knives. They are traditional, classic, useful, charming and absolutely timeless. Hats off to them!
Bought the No eight a few days ago and was disappointed. The blade was dull, pitted and rolled over on the cutting edge. I guess they are lacking on quality control. Would not even shave the hair on my arm.
@@eastonvonschist2283, Sorry to hear that you were, are disapointed. It is maybe possible that the QC didn't do its job. Once sharpened, you will love it. Wich steel do you have, inox (stainless) or carbone?
@@yerggoyerggo3549 Carbon Steel
@@eastonvonschist2283 I prefer carbone to stainless. Easy to sharpen. It could give taste with foodprep. You could leave the blade into vinegar. It will turn into a nice grey patina and is a bit protected from corosion and the metal taste with foofprep is not so bad anymore.
@@yerggoyerggo3549 What do you use to sharpen your knifes?
que buenas herramientas ua-cam.com/video/FC8H9bFAvLs/v-deo.html
Mine is my everyday carry
Iiiiiiioiikoiiookkkkk
You don't show the removal of mouth piece. I got mine out but can't get it back in.
Vive opinel carbone

Thank you!
Great knives I love then all!
Great story thank you for the sub-titles I love my Opinels knifes those who make the knifes are making a great knife thanks from Colorado.
Heureux qu un couteau français vous plaise moi j ai celui de mon père il a 30 ans et toujours fidèle
what is the name of the MUSIC IN OPENING?
I've lost my Opinel Carbon No. 8 in the woods a couple of days ago, my very faithful companion which served me for four years :( Already ordered two No. 9, one carbon with the beech handle ( Carbon steel's one has only beech handles I think) and the Inox Olive -to make a swap of the handles. The quality of Opinel Carbon blades is legendary :)
mine just has 4 lines where yours has a letter and a number. I can't find one like it anywhere online. Even on the inside piece. Found it in an antique store
That’s not a zippo. Most likely a fake or off branded zippo.
Great video…. Good Reference for me to know the history and buy my first Opinel. thanks
Do the French not understand the world speaks English !!!! So why put out a marketing video in a language very few people both to learn or use
Quel commentaire imbecile !
Aren't there english subtittles??🤔🤔
zippo U.S.S TRUXTUN CGN35 (BRADFORD. PA. MADE IN U.S.A. C IX
An easy way to loosen the action on these wooden handles is to open the blade, and bake them in a 350 oven for 1 hour. I also rub a little olive oil on the handle beforehand, and it gives them a nice patina. Will never open hard again.
For 10 years of heavily using, Opinel N⁰ 9 is the most versatile for my hand, but N⁰ 7 I like the most.
I believe I have found a old zippo because it doesn't have the letter or number on it it has a westing house gas turbines logo perhaps you my good sir could help me find out more
I will say I wish once the strap cutter was deployed it would lockout the scissors from opening until the strap tool was put away.
